Mati City Brings Back Home Gardening Using UCG Technology

Urban Container Gardening technology sealed it’s partnership with the City Mati through an Executive Order issued last April 11 at the City Hall Compound.
Executive Order 42 s. 2014 also known as Establishment of Green Communities with Agri-industry based components for youth, women and other organized associations, adopting the 4H Club and the Rural Improvement Club Strategies .
Vice Mayor Glenda Rabat-Gayta said that this is to achieve food sufficiency and start maximizing open spaces of urban poor settlements with urban container gardening (UCG) in the rural/ urbanizing barangays, growing our own food through nature and organic farming.
“Kanang kamatis ug uban pang lamas na gamiton sa pagluto mao pa na ang atong gastuhan? Kung naa tay tanom sa atong backyard dako na kana siya og savings sa pamilya”, she added.
The Executive Order was unveiled last April 11 at the City Hall of Mati as their way to institutionalized a simple solution to a problem called hunger.
Vice Mayor said , “We want to make a trend that ‘Kung di ka farmer di ka in’ but we need to set an example that’s why we have to do it first here in City Hall so that the other departments offices will follow.”
“ And when the time comes that they will follow us ,we will reaping the reward whle they are still planting ”, she added.
Meanwhile, UCG Consultant and Ateneo De Davao Agriculture Instructor Perfecto Rom was truly grateful to the City of Mati for institutionalizing his research that is why any technology he will developed will be directly given to the City so that they will be the first to experience a cheaper and faster results in their home gardening.
“I would like to ask you whatever you learned in our activity, I would like you to share it to other people because I want the Urban Container Gardening technology will be common knowledge and not any exclusive right”, he added in his speech during the launching.
The following offices and the groups that made the activity possible are ; City Mayor’s Office, City Vice Mayor’s Office, Barangays Integrators, Barangay Affairs Coordinating Office (BACO) , Technical Working Group (TWG) , City Housing Office, City Agriculturist Office and Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) -Mindanao .
