GreenCom Goes To Malacaang and Congress

The visit happened last October 17 and 18, 2016 at the Office of Speaker of the House Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez, Office of Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. and  The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor.

This is to open access the discussion of the  development experience for  mutual exchange with other LGUs, groups, organizations  experience on  to  accelerate opportunity for investment ready families for livelihood to address poverty and hunger.

The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor Field Operations Division for Mindanao   (PCUP-FODM)  key personnel  have been advocates for urban/organic nature farming initiatives to address poverty and hunger at the household for more than a decade.

In response to PCUPs advocacy lead by Marilou A. Tarona,  the City of Mati has embraced the Container Gardening  technology/innovations and issued Executive Order 42 dated September 2014 for the Establishment of the Green Communities and creation of the Technical Working Group . The policy and  program developed and designed by the late Urban Poor Representative 10th Congress of the Philippines Florante T. “Entoy” Tarona

The Container Gardening Activity  Cycle 1 was implemented and documented under guidance of from the  Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology led by Dr. Roy Ponce, Vice- President for Research and Extension for the  Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and

Evaluation with the active participation of the Green Communities  Secretariat.

The Cycle 1 has been proven an experience for duplication, thus, worth sharing to the present administration’s thrust on poverty reduction especially the lessons learned, insights and recommendations  on social preparation to determine investment ready stakeholders to the program.

This activity also intend to engage key leaders of the country with updates/feedback  from the local  level  initiatives’ for maintenance and expansion of the program.             (Text and Photos by JESSARI A. TARONA)
