Davao Light employees, Income coop conduct mass blood-letting

The Aboitiz-owned electric utility Davao Light & Power Co. continues to look for ways of helping its employees and the immediate members of their families, and in some cases, people in the community, in times of life-and-death situation. This it did by conducting mass blood donation by its employees to help the Red Cross fulfill its mission.
Davao Light also partnered this year with Independent Cooperative Movement of Employees of Davao (INCOME – Davao), a cooperative composed of employees of the electric utility, to ensure mass participation and for the latter to implement its own social program.
This year, the blood donation activity was undertaken last Saturday, May 4. Despite a Saturday schedule and being a working day, and most regular blood donors among employees have other activities, 59 came to the blood-letting site at the Taebo gym of the company’s C. Bangoy office. They all wanted to give at least 500 cc of their blood. However, only 46 qualified and were extracted blood. The rest were turned down for one reason or another.
Those who were able to donate blood are the following:
Asst. Vice President Ronald Chan; Department Managers Vic N. Sumalinog, Adriano Po Jr., Donald Diwara, Daniel Cabigon, and Virmel Dabon.
Other team leader-donors and team members who gave blood are Vincent Ubas, Nelson D. Gumba, Farley Marces, Jay Ocubillo, Ruby Barnes, Erwin Chiutena, Edwin S. Galope, Winston Tapiz, Roel Yap, Juanito Laguitao, Jed Jason S. Chiu, Jerome Ryan V. Delonio, Michael B. Angelo, Alfred Balaga, Nestor E. Amoguis, Jr., Joey V. Maranga; Joderica Dino, Daniel Alesna, Arvin Padayhag,Rowie Jaun, Nathaniel Estroque, Feliciano Camerino, Eli Lugatiman, Rey Cacho, Alan Panto,Don Alexis Brillante, Randee Barace, Don Roy Valles, Ariel N. Digao, Harvey Mar Panes, Marlon Labata, Daisy Cartagena, Janlyn Sanchez, Jessimer Enriquez, Rogelio Adlawan, and Christian Laspona. None Davao Light employees who came and donated blood include: Raznim Zean M. Ocubillo, Letty Marces (wife of Farley Marces), Reden Angelo Subang, Elonie Oda, Nathaniel Estroquia and Ronnie Jaum of Income-Davao, and Lara Grace Tapiz (wife of Winston Tapiz),
Those who came to give their blood but were politely turned down for some reasons or another are the following:
Jay Ocubillo’s daughter Zianne Krisha Ocubillo, Didit Vidamo, Anna Marie B. Carbonilla, Ariel Francisco, Michael Langones, Joanne Rose R. Domingo, Amor Magno, Erlando Lucena, Allan Panto, AVP Ross Luga, Janlyn Sanchez, AVP Reynold Felix, and Jerry Cano.
All are also members of Davao Light employees’ cooperative.
As an incentive to the blood donors, INCOME-Davao gave t-shirts with inscription showing that the one who wears it is a certified blood donor. It also provided the meals for the staff and Red Cross volunteers.
The mass blood donation was jointly initiated by the Community Relations Department and the Quality, Human Resource Department of Davao Light in support to the Labor-Management Council (LMC) program of the company, and of INCOME-Davao as a way of giving back to its employees and community.
