Two years ago Typhoon Pablo (Typhoon Bopha) striked Davao Oriental was one of the regions greatly affected and a tiny place called Baganga was not exempted.
Baganga, is known for producing copra and for almost a century , this town was solely depending in this industry.
Then came the tragedy wherein the survivors have no income. International projects and relief came and went but still the survivors still haven’t recovered. Most of them still felt hopeless.
Then a group of people from the national government and local government units came and help established The Gabayan Center and Gabayan Workers Association in Dapnan.
One of their projects is the driftwood furniture making.
Recently, with the help of the government offices and funding agencies they were able to join the Trade Fair in SMX Lanang lat August 20-24.
The center may still be starting and trying to push the market a little harder but it is good start for them to have simply a glimmer of hope.
